I am going to change the dates for posting from Mon - Thur to Tues - Fri. I have had difficulty with Monday postings for several weeks, so this week I just decided to change the date. Life is what it is.

Just a heads up to let anyone whose interested know, that I need a bit more time to work on the book show I'm in. This will just be a half week, but I will return to my normal schedule next week.I need to take another long break for Helga for another project. The last one was for painting, this time I have a Book Arts show scheduled for the end of October, and I need the time to prepare my work. After I finish with that show, I am hoping to devote more time and energy to Helga and Company.
So set your calendar, Helga will return on October 27th. I need to take a short break in order to concentrate on another project. Helga will return May 27th and in full color again. Yeah!
Not being a professional web designer, but trying to fix my own website is difficult. So I apologize for some of its quirks. I will try to get them fixed but the way I see it is - if the Health Care Website can have problems for a few months with a team of professional web designers and engineers, I'm going to give myself a break and not stress out about the fact that my little website is not as perfect as it could be.
That said, I'm happy to be back making cartoons and will try to stick to the Monday through Thursday new cartoon schedule. The future's looking good for Just a quick note to say that everything's fine. The scheduled date for the official relaunch of Helga is March 3rd. The new site might be up and kinda running before then. But I expect to be in full projection mode March 3rd. See you then!
Things are moving along quite well. I am working on not only updating the website but most of the graphics as well. My target date for refreshing the website is January 3, 2014.
Well, I had to finally admit that the website was in dire need of some reconstructing. So unfortunately, it will take some time which means I have to put Helga on . I am exploring several options and hope that the new website will be better. OK, let's be honest here, it can only get better.
I am also working on trying to expand some of the content, which I have not done in a long time. So check back occasionally to get updates on how its going, maybe a cartoon or two or to read over past strips. Onward and upward! Just thought I'd write a bit about the 10/17/13 cartoon.
I do know that Alexander the Great did not use elephants, but he did encounter them when his army went to India. I was, am, planning to clarify this in today's cartoon. But after reading yesterday's cartoon again, I thought I should change how that was worded so that it is not too confusing. I apologize if someone was confused by the context. You try stuff, you move on. Just an update on some of my thoughts on where I am taking Helga. I have been trying to solidify my ideas about what direction I would like to go in, i.e. short story lines, long story lines or daily gag.
Honestly, there's not much appeal in creating a daily gag comic for me. There are many people who do it really well and as a reader they don't hold my interest long enough. (Now a moment of clarity - This is just a matter of taste, not a comment about the genre. And I believe as an artist, you should analyze, objectively, what you like and don't like. This helps you in the creative process.) So, I did want to take Helga into a longer story line mode, keeping the political bent, but just not having it be so day to day and directly related to what is happening this week. One thing I have noticed about the political world is that unless you are elected into an office, you're job changes quite a bit. Most of the people who are on the lower rungs tend to get moved and shifted to new positions. So it just made sense that Helga would get a new job. Why chose the North Pole? First, I wanted to make sure everyone knew where it was and what it's inhabitants did. I also did not want to chose a real-life place like France or England because I would be tied to what it really is like there. Choosing some place like Santa's Village, I can make things up and change things to suit the story lines. And the second reason, is that I love taking common subject matters and trying to do something with them myself (which is how I thought of the idea for this strip). And soooo since there are many people who have done Santa, I wanted to give it a shot too. So her adventures continue up North! |
