I heard the news late Sunday night when my husband told me Bin Laden was killed. And I struggled with the idea of how to talk about this major event without being too insensitive. Believe me, there were many, many revisions and restarts. And I'm not sure the finished product is great, but it is what it is. I have one more cartoon I want to do on the subject, and then I'm letting it go.
I have to say though, that I most appreciate that President Obama decided not to bring Bin Laden to trial. The expense and the emotional toll (to not only us, the United States but also the rest of the world) would have been great and probably would have ended with the same result. On a political note, it will be very interesting to see what the effect of this will be. We are getting close to the 2012 Campaign rally, so it will still be fresh in people's mind. I'm going with it should be a positive. It made Obama look strong, commanding and decisive. All qualities we want our leaders to have. However, I don't think enough to carry him through to re-election. The economy is still a big ticket item and from my perspective it is only improving in tiny, tiny increments.
