As I write this, there is 5 days till the debt ceiling deadline.
I have been wondering about the true agenda of the Tea Party. Fiscal responsibility seems not their agenda, even though that's their official mantra. The financial situation of the country could have been solved long ago, with less stress. It is becoming more apparent, the closer to the deadline we come without a compromise, that the Tea Party has other thoughts in mind. They have, after all, successfully taken over the Republican Party. Both McConnell and Boehner have become figure heads. Neither one being able to talk any sense into their freshmen congressmen. (I even heard Boehner trying to blame the stall on other Republicans. But I have a memory, Mr. Boehner, and it was just last week that some of the Tea Party representatives were not willing to budge. And even this week, Boehner was having problems securing enough votes from the Tea Party for his debt solution.) So the question on everyone's mind should be: what is the Tea Party's ultimate goal? Let's also keep are fingers cross that this whole messy problem is figur

This week's cartoon is for my husband. He has been overly amused by the (Murdoch), News of the World, activity over in England. I can imagine the people at Fox News are scrambling to make sure everything is in order.
I have to admit I love the political power struggle occurring in the Republican party. It does seem that John Boehner's power has all but disappeared considering last week's statement then retraction. We are no where closer to a budget deal, but we did learn who ultimately has the power for that party.
The Democrats have had their own share of power struggles throughout this crisis. And I was a bit surprised by President Obama stepping in and taking such a strong, decisive stance. Maybe since getting Bin Laden he has been feeling more confident. That sounds like a very positive, optimistic description of our President. But my confidence in him is only on the surface. His budget proposal is only minutely better than the Republican's. Seniors, veterans, the disabled, etc. are still going to see dramatic cuts. And what happened to the plan to start investing in our deteriorating infra-structure? Investing in education, innovation, alternative energy? Its time to give up the notion that Buisness will do what's right. We can give them all the tax cuts they want and throw money down their throats, it will never be enough and they will continue down the path till the well runs dry. Tax cuts will not give us more jobs, but a tax hike could fund educational programs. Educational programs lead to people dreaming, creating and innovating and which leads to starting buisnesses, which leads to job creation. Right now, the politicians want us to play the lottery (if we give them more tax breaks, maybe they'll give us jobs), when what we really need to do is help them start to keep this country strong (tax money spent on education, innovation and infra-structure). While we wait for the Republicans to decide on whether or not they're going to help with the debt ceiling, Helga, Sheep and Bill are going on the road.
