I did watch almost all of it. (I had to skip out the last 30 minutes to go pick up my kids.) And overall, I actually real liked the debate. I was kinda worried before hand, that around hour two I would be zoning out. But that never happened. It was real interesting to watch.
As far as actually accomplishing anything, other than making us feel patriotic, I don't real see any results coming from this that would have been any different had they not had it. All that really occurred was finding out the Republicans want to start over and the Democrats want the Republicans to accept what's already been written.
I have to agree with the Republicans that the Summit would have meant more if it had been conducted eight months ago.
Though to be objective, this bill is not something the Democrats have sprung over night, (not like the Republicans did with the Iraqi war). So if the Republicans had wanted in good faith to work with the Democrats, I think they could have arranged it. But that would have meant that they would have had to compromise, give and take. I just don't see them doing that. It appears me that they have found their method for negotiating (or non-negotiating to be specific).
So that's kind of the tone of my cartoon, which is Helga standing on a pedestal pointing out the significance of the event and Cow losing track of what they were talking about. And of course Sheep, continuing my obsession with donuts.
